Tracks:
Wonderland
Beating of Hearts
The Toy Song
Notes:
These songs were recorded for a potential single at the behest of Virgin. They were produced and recorded by Steve Nye, who was being auditioned for the role as producer for their next album. Nye had previously produced Japan's fifth album "Tin Drum", which the band had been given and enjoyed the production of.
The session would start at 10am, with Nye notably absent. After hours of jamming and messing around, he would finally arrive at 4pm to start the session.
For Wonderland, Andy Partridge originally recorded electric and acoustic guitar for the track, but ultimately most of it was mixed out.
For Beating of Hearts, Partridge used an Ibanez electric guitar with all notes tuned to E, played acoustically. Gregory had his Rickenbacker tuned similarly, but played electric on his Roland JC-120 amp.
"I did the same on my Rickenbacker 12-string; the lower four strings tuned to low E, the Ds and Gs tuned one octave higher, the upper four to open E."
Both guitars have a call-and-response aspect to them, with Partridge playing a part and Gregory mimicking it. Dave programmed a pad, as well as overdubbing Indian-esque string and concertina synths using a Prophet-5 synthesizer.

Tracks:
1. The Meeting Place
2. Earn Enough for Us
3. Another Satellite
Notes:
XTC records three songs in Maida Vale Studio 4 for the BBC's 'The Sunday Show'. The band felt nervous about performing live for the first time in years, as the show would air these about an hour after they were recorded. Ultimately this anxiety would subside, and the band would record a version of "Another Satellite" only thirty minutes before the songs were set to air.
"Another Satellite" was released as a B-side on the "Dear God" 12"

Notes:
To promote Oranges & Lemons, XTC booked two sessions with BBC to re-record eight songs from the album. Dave Gregory was five hours late to this session, as he was rear-ended on his way to the studio. This accident would break many of his equipment, with the only surviving instrument being Andy Partridge's drum machine. The event led to the entire first session being programming drums for the songs selected, which continues drum and synth programming work Gregory did in the month prior, during Partridge and Moulding's promotional visit to the United States.
These sessions were done at Wessex Sound Studios, as opposed to Maida Vale Studios due to renovations.
